Archer Aviation Acquires Wisk Aero, Expanding Autonomous Reach
Archer Aviation has made a significant acquisition deal with Boeing to acquire its subsidiaries Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid. The deal will give Boeing an almost 20% holding in Archer and expand its reach into autonomous aviation, defense, and airspace management.
The three companies bring together different expertise: Wisk's eVTOL technology, Insitu's uncrewed aircraft, and SkyGrid's digital airspace technology. Wisk has spent 16 years developing autonomous electric aircraft and has designed, built, and flown six generations of eVTOLs. Its current Generation 6 aircraft is being developed as an autonomous, passenger-carrying eVTOL.
Insitu brings a profitable business generating over $200 million in annual revenue, immediately adding to Archer's growth. SkyGrid develops digital services and air traffic management technology for safe operation of autonomous and highly automated aircraft. Together, the companies bring almost two million combined flight hours of experience to Archer.
The deal is subject to regulatory requirements under US competition law and is expected to complete by the end of 2026. Boeing will receive Archer shares representing 19.75% of the company's outstanding Class A stock, as well as warrants allowing it to purchase up to $200 million in additional Archer stock.
