Archer Aviation Buys Boeing's Autonomous Flight Subsidiaries

Archer Aviation has agreed to acquire Boeing's subsidiaries Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid in a move that will create a broader aerospace and defense platform. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

The acquisition adds Insitu's established defense business, which generates over $200 million in annual revenue and supports operations across 35 countries. Insitu has manufactured and fielded more than 3,500 unmanned aircraft systems, while Wisk brings autonomous flight technology developed through six generations of eVTOL aircraft and over 1,700 flight tests.

SkyGrid adds aircraft-agnostic automated airspace management technology. Archer plans to integrate the companies' autonomy and airspace technologies with its ZEE AI platform, creating an end-to-end platform serving commercial aerospace, defense, and air traffic management applications.
