Archer Aviation Set to Acquire Boeing's Wisk Aero Unit for Strategic Partnership

Archer Aviation is set to acquire Boeing's electric aircraft unit, Wisk Aero, along with two subsidiaries, Insitu and SkyGrid. In exchange, Archer will give Boeing a nearly 20% stake in the combined company. This deal will provide Archer access to Boeing's autonomous-flight technology, potentially strengthening its position in defense and commercial logistics markets.

The acquisition is seen as a strategic move for both companies. Archer is developing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft for commercial service, targeting short trips in urban areas and between airports and city centers. Boeing will receive shares equal to 19.75% of Archer's outstanding Class A stock at closing, subject to adjustments for Wisk's cash, debt, and transaction expenses.

As part of the deal, Boeing and Archer will establish a collaboration and technology-sharing pact that preserves Boeing's access to Wisk's core autonomous-flight technology for use across its current and future commercial and defense aircraft programs. This partnership is seen as a key factor in the success of both companies in the emerging eVTOL industry.
