Archer Aviation to Acquire Boeing Subsidiaries Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu
Archer Aviation is set to acquire three subsidiaries from Boeing in a deal that will significantly expand its business model. Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu are the companies involved, bringing with them six generations of eVTOL aircraft designs and over 1,700 completed test flights.
The acquisition also includes autonomous flight-control technology, sensor suites, and radar architecture from Wisk Aero, which is targeted for dual civil and defense certifications. SkyGrid provides ground-based air traffic management systems designed to integrate automated traffic and scale routing software across civil airspace.
Insitu operates as an established defense contractor specializing in uncrewed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft, with over 3,500 units operating in 35 countries. The company generates over $200 million in annual revenue, making it a profitable addition to Archer's balance sheet.
The deal will grant Boeing an equity stake of nearly 20 percent in Archer Aviation through the issuance of new Class A shares and warrants. Boeing has also agreed to invest up to $55 million in an upcoming Archer funding round and will retain rights via cross-licensing to access Wisk's core autonomous flight systems for its own commercial and defense platforms.
