Archer Aviation's Stock Soars on Boeing Deal and Regulatory Momentum
Archer Aviation's stock has surged by nearly 45% over five trading sessions after its announcement of an all-stock deal to acquire Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid from Boeing. The deal will give Archer access to autonomous flight technology through Wisk and add a profitable defense business through Insitu.
The acquisition marks a significant shift in the company's strategy, as it now describes itself as an aerospace and defense technology company rather than just an urban air mobility business.
Archer has made significant progress toward FAA certification, becoming the first eVTOL manufacturer to complete phase 3 of the four-phase type certification process. The Midnight aircraft is now in the final phase, with over 150 piloted test flights completed.
The company has a strengthened balance sheet, holding approximately $1.56 billion in cash and short-term investments at the end of the second quarter. This provides Archer with more flexibility than many early-stage aerospace companies that must regularly tap capital markets.
