Archer Scoops Up Boeing's Autonomous Flight Tech Subsidiaries

Aerospace company Archer has acquired three subsidiaries from Boeing: Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

As part of the deal, Boeing will take a stake in Archer, becoming a strategic partner. This collaboration will allow both companies to share technology and expertise.

The acquired subsidiaries have developed various technologies for autonomous flights, including eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft), air traffic management systems, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

Wisk Aero has conducted over 1,700 flight tests and has developed autonomy capabilities based on a flight control computer, sensor suite, and radar system. SkyGrid has created a ground-based solution for air traffic management, enabling safe integration, scalable automation, and coordinated traffic management.

Insitu specializes in designing, developing, and manufacturing UAS used in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. Its product portfolio includes high-performance, cost-efficient, robust, and VTOL-capable UAS as well as AI-powered software solutions.
