Archer to Acquire Boeing's Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid Businesses
Archer Aviation Inc., a leading developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, announced it will acquire Boeing's Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid subsidiaries. The move significantly expands Archer's capabilities in autonomous flight, eVTOL technology, unmanned aircraft systems, and air traffic management.
The acquisition brings together three Boeing businesses with Archer's existing technologies, providing a substantial base of operational experience and autonomous aviation expertise. Wisk has accumulated over 16 years of eVTOL development and autonomous flight experience, including six generations of eVTOL aircraft and over 1,700 flight tests.
Insitu offers an established unmanned aircraft systems business focused on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, with a portfolio that includes resilient and vertical takeoff and landing-capable unmanned aircraft as well as AI-enabled software. SkyGrid adds air traffic management capabilities, including a ground-based system for managing increasingly autonomous aircraft.
The transaction will position Archer to compete across the emerging autonomous aviation market, from commercial eVTOL operations and defense systems to digital infrastructure needed to manage automated airspace.
