ARK Invest Shifts Portfolio, Bets Big on AI Infrastructure and Crypto
ARK Invest's August trades reveal a significant shift in Cathie Wood's investment strategy. The firm reduced its exposure to software and consumer-growth companies, cutting millions of shares in stocks like Roblox, Tempus AI, Shopify, Twist Bioscience, Palantir, AMD, CrowdStrike, Robinhood, Deere, and 10x Genomics.
The biggest move was the sale of approximately 2.6 million shares of Roblox, which is notable given that the company's Q2 results beat Wall Street estimates. In contrast, ARK Invest increased its exposure to crypto-related stocks, buying Block, Circle, and Coinbase, with a particularly large purchase of Block at the end of August.
The firm also made significant purchases in Nvidia, Broadcom, Cerebras Systems, and Cloudflare, with Nvidia being the single largest purchase at approximately 547,900 shares. SpaceX was another notable addition to ARK's portfolio, with aggressive buying despite the company's high burn rate. The biotech trades suggest a rotation within genomics and gene editing rather than an exit from the sector.
ARK Genomic Revolution ETF (ARKG) was the top performer among all six ARK funds in August, posting a 22.48% gain, which is attributed to the fund's sustained buying in Intellia Therapeutics and Generate Biomedicines.
