Arm Soars on IBM Partnership and Record AI Chip Orders
Arm Holdings, the British chip designer, continued its strong rally into after-hours trading on Wednesday, surging 4.76% to $263. This growth comes on the heels of an expanded partnership with IBM and a surge in demand for Arm's first self-designed data center processor.
The company's market capitalization reached approximately $268 billion due to the late-session gains, extending its 12-month advance to 79%. The catalyst behind this success is a newly formed collaboration between Arm and IBM that will integrate Arm architecture into future generations of IBM Z and LinuxONE mainframe systems. This marks the first jointly developed dual-architecture processor between the two companies.
According to Mohamed Awad, Arm's executive vice president of Cloud AI, each processor core is engineered to natively execute both IBM and Arm instructions. This design allows for seamless integration of Arm-native Linux environments alongside z/OS and existing Linux applications on the same hardware.
