Artist Rodney 'Nova Sky' Mosley Finds Peace in Haiku Poetry

Little Rock artist and writer Rodney 'Nova Sky' Mosley has found solace in haiku poetry, which he uses to capture moments of calm amidst chaos. His latest passion project is two illustrated books: Summer Will Be Us and Caterpillar Dreams.

Mosley discovered haiku after his father passed away in 2017, when longer-form writing felt overwhelming. He compares haiku to 'miniature puzzles' that allow him to challenge himself to express ideas quickly, without getting bogged down by perfectionism.

His friend Michael Scott encouraged him to turn his collection into a book, leading to Caterpillar Dreams in 2019. Mosley has since released Summer Will Be Us and continues to write haiku daily. He believes that haiku can help people find joy in small moments and appreciate the beauty in everyday life.

Mosley also hosts writing workshops, with his next one being a closed session at Laman Library for women veterans only, running from September 12 to October 10.
