Asia-Pacific Airlines Eye Massive Plane Orders with Boeing and Airbus
Singapore Airlines and Qantas Airways are reportedly in talks with Boeing and Airbus to purchase dozens of wide-body aircraft. The discussions involve Singapore Airlines evaluating a potential order for at least 50 large passenger jets, including the Boeing 777X and Airbus A350-1000.
Qantas is also weighing an order for roughly 20 wide-body aircraft, considering either the Boeing 787 Dreamliner or the Airbus A350. The airline has previously established firm orders and purchase rights for 24 wide-body jets as part of its long-haul modernization strategy.
The multi-billion-dollar negotiations between the airlines and the two manufacturers have led to a 4% gain in Boeing shares on Thursday, according to Stocktwits data. Representatives for both Airbus and Boeing declined to comment on the active discussions.
