Assuta and Microsoft Unveil AI Medical Assistant to Ease Doctor Burden
Assuta Medical Centers and Microsoft are partnering to develop an artificial intelligence system that will serve as a personal assistant for doctors. The AI, currently in development, aims to relieve doctors of documentation and search tasks, allowing them to focus on examinations, conversations, and medical decision-making.
The system will collect relevant medical information, summarize test results and previous documents, document meetings with patients, and automatically draft visit summaries. However, the AI is not intended to replace doctors' judgment, but rather provide a tool to support their work.
According to Microsoft Israel's Sarit Sass, 'the future of the healthcare system relies on combining human expertise with artificial intelligence capabilities.' Assuta's Ofir Shani Shaharbani added that the partnership marks 'a significant milestone in our journey,' enabling them to bring AI to the heart of medical activity while protecting patient privacy.
The first pilot is expected to begin within a year, and the system will likely initially operate on a limited scale. The goal is to reduce the time spent by doctors on documentation, saving hundreds of work hours each month, which could lead to shorter visits without reducing the amount of time spent speaking with patients.
