AST SpaceMobile's BlueBird 7 satellite was launched on April 19 from Cape Canaveral aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin New Glenn rocket, but it failed to reach its intended orbit. The second stage of the launch delivered the satellite into an altitude far lower than planned, causing it to deorbit and burn up.

Following this news, AST SpaceMobile's stock price plummeted by over 17% in overnight trading on April 19. Over the past week, the company's shares have declined by nearly 10%. The decline is attributed to a combination of negative sentiment factors.

A key factor contributing to the decline is the sale of 3.04 million shares of AST SpaceMobile stock by billionaire Rakuten Group founder Hiroshi Mikitani on April 14 and 15, generating approximately $271 million in revenue. Additionally, insiders reduced their holdings in tandem, further depressing the stock price.

The launch failure also highlights concerns about AST SpaceMobile's valuation premium. The company had originally planned to deploy 45 to 60 satellites by the end of 2026 but will now need to reschedule its launch plan due to this setback. With rapid advancements from competitors like SpaceX and Amazon, AST SpaceMobile's 'window of opportunity' is being compressed.

Scotiabank analyst Andres Coello stated that while AST SpaceMobile's design is impressive, the intense competition, low ARPU (average revenue per user), and high capital intensity do not justify the current valuation. He set a price target of $41.20, implying approximately 52% downside from current levels.
