Atlanta Woman Sentenced to 16 Years for $9 Million Amazon Fraud Scheme

A woman was sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison for an elaborate scheme that defrauded Amazon out of more than $9 million. Brittany Hudson, 40, of Atlanta used her business delivering packages for Amazon and her relationship with Kayricka Wortham, the operations manager at the Amazon warehouse in Smyrna, to engineer a massive fraud scheme.

Between January and June 2022, Hudson and Wortham created fake vendors in Amazon's system, submitting over 1,000 fake invoices for goods and services that hadn't been provided to Amazon. These invoices were approved by Wortham, causing Amazon to transfer about $9.4 million to bank accounts controlled by the conspirators.

The money was spent on luxuries including a nearly $1 million home in Smyrna, Georgia, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, a 2021 Dodge Durango, a 2022 Tesla Model X, and a 2018 Porsche Panamera. While out on bond, they tried to defraud a franchising company to open a hookah lounge.

Hudson was convicted of 30 felony charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, and forging the signature of a federal judge. She was sentenced to 16 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to repay Amazon the defrauded money and forfeit the luxury items bought with the money.
