Austin Tex-Mex Restaurant Raises Funds for Detained Employees
Cisco's, Austin's oldest Tex-Mex restaurant and bakery, has launched a fundraiser to support two employees who were detained by ICE officers on their way to work.
Ramon Avilez-Frias and Maria Del Pilar Moreno-Loredo, described as 'beloved members of the restaurant community' by owner Matt Cisneros, have been in ICE custody since September 7. Cisneros stated that both employees are hardworking, tax-paying individuals with no criminal records who have shown up every day for their jobs and their families.
The fundraiser aims to help cover essential day-to-day expenses for the families while Avilez-Frias and Moreno-Loredo work with immigration attorneys to advocate for their release. As of September 11, the GoFundMe has received over 270 donations, raising $21,481 out of its $22,000 goal.
