Austin's Waterline Tops Houston's JPMorgan Chase Tower as Tallest Building in Texas
The Waterline, a 74-story tower in downtown Austin, has officially become the tallest building in Texas after completing construction two months ahead of schedule. The mixed-use development rises 1,025 feet high and covers an area of 2.7 million square feet.
The previous record holder was the JPMorgan Chase Tower in Houston, which stood at 1,002 feet tall. Although The Waterline is taller by 23 feet, it has one less floor than its predecessor, with 75 stories compared to 76.
Developed by Lincoln Property Co. and Kairoi Residential, The Waterline features residential units, a hotel, office space, retail areas, and parking facilities. The construction process involved over 6,800 workers, who collectively contributed more than 4.5 million hours of labor to the project.
DPR Construction completed the project in July, with Project Executive Brett Bickford praising the team's efforts: 'Waterline pushed every assumption about scale, complexity and coordination... This was a massive undertaking.'
