Australian Tourist Stabbed in Unprovoked Attack Inside Midtown McDonald's

A 19-year-old Australian tourist was stabbed in the back inside a Midtown McDonald's on Monday morning. The attack occurred at around 2 a.m. on August 17, 2026, at the location of 8th Avenue and 35th Street.

The victim got into a dispute with Juan Mercedes, a 25-year-old man from Florida, while they were both eating inside the restaurant. Unfortunately for Mercedes, detectives believe that this stabbing was unprovoked.

Mercedes is facing charges of assault after being taken into custody by police. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover fully.
