Avid Solutions Leverages IBM Bob to Unify Spatial Perception and Agentic Control

Avid Solutions International, an innovative startup, has successfully integrated IBM's Bob platform into their flagship product Elmer. The goal was to develop a unified operating system that could seamlessly connect spatial perception with agentic control in various industries.

The challenge Avid faced was unifying on-device processing of voice, camera, and gesture inputs, cloud reasoning, digital workflows, and physical control into a single platform. By using Bob, the team was able to accelerate development by connecting perception, reasoning, approval, and execution into one draft-and-approve pattern.

Elmer's architecture separates fast local perception from heavier cloud reasoning and separates proposals from execution, keeping the interface responsive and preventing model outputs from becoming actions without explicit control. The system uses a four-stage architecture: inputs establish the operating context, spatial perception enters the reasoning loop, agentic reasoning produces a proposal, not a command, and separate orchestrators execute approved digital and physical work.
