AWS and JPMorgan Chase Team Up on Quantum Computing R&D
AWS (AMZN) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) have announced a collaboration to advance quantum computing research.
This partnership is part of a larger trend of large cloud providers partnering with money-centre banks on quantum computing research.
The established pattern for such collaborations is that they often result in little more than a press release and proof-of-concept, with revenue attribution being immaterial to either firm's base business.
AWS will need to see if the work migrates into its quantum service layer as a commercial offering for it to be considered a significant development. Similarly, JPMorgan Chase's innovation budget is relatively small compared to its overall earnings model.
