AWS Backlog Hits Record $496B as Amazon Raises AI Spend to $220B
Amazon Web Services' (AWS) backlog has reached $496B, as reported in its Q2 2026 earnings release. The company's contracted cloud commitments have jumped from $364 billion to $496 billion in a single quarter, with CEO Andy Jassy stating that 'we will still not have enough capacity to meet all the demand we have in 2026.'
This backlog growth substantially exceeds Google Cloud's comparable figure over the same period. AWS revenue for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, was $42.2 billion, a 37% year-over-year increase and the division's fastest growth rate in 18 quarters.
The company's capital expenditure commitment has been raised to $220B, with Jassy citing high-bandwidth memory costs as the driver of this increase. This marks the largest infrastructure commitment in Amazon's history.
