AWS Drops $1 Billion on Embedded AI Engineers for Enterprise Clients
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is investing $1 billion to place thousands of artificial intelligence specialists directly within customer organizations. The goal is to help businesses transition from experimenting with AI technology to using it in their everyday operations.
The new group, known as the Amazon Web Services Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE), will work directly with clients to build and deploy agentic AI systems. These systems can perform tasks and make operational decisions with limited human intervention.
AWS claims that this approach will drastically compress system deployment timelines, moving projects from months to weeks or days. Embedded engineers will sit alongside customer business, technical, and security teams to build tools using client data, internal rules, and existing governance structures.
