AWS Expands AI Model Availability for US Government Agencies
Amazon's cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has expanded its AI model availability within the AWS GovCloud (US) Region. This allows government agencies to access large language models from Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, xAI, NVIDIA, and Amazon itself via the Amazon Bedrock platform.
The move comes as AWS experiences strong growth, with revenue reaching $42.2 billion in Q2 2026, a year-on-year increase of 36.7%. Operating income reached approximately $16.6 billion, surging 63% year-on-year, with an operating margin as high as 39.4%. AWS contributes about 21% of Amazon's total revenue but accounts for over 60% of its operating income.
AWS has also set a new historical record for its backlog at $496 billion in the second quarter. The company expects its future revenue scale to reach the trillion-dollar level, driven by investments in AI and high-performance computing capacity.
