AWS Loses Ground as Google Cloud Surges to Record 15% Market Share
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has ceded ground to Google Cloud in the cloud infrastructure market, according to Synergy Research Group's Q2 2026 numbers. In the second quarter of this year, AWS held a 28% share of worldwide spending on cloud infrastructure services, down from its previous high of around 30% in Q2 2025. Meanwhile, Google Cloud has surged to 15%, its highest recorded share.
Google's rapid growth is attributed to the increasing adoption of AI and data-analytics workloads by enterprises. The company's own cloud unit credits this acceleration to the uptake of its AI and data-analytics stack, including BigQuery, Vertex AI, and managed open-source AI tooling running on Google's infrastructure.
AWS still leads the market in absolute revenue terms, but its cushion is thinner than it once was. Microsoft Azure, meanwhile, has maintained a stable 20% share of the market without a clear directional trend.
