Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing platform, has shown incredible momentum in recent quarters. CEO Andy Jassy made a comment during the company's second-quarter earnings call that sent Wall Street into a frenzy.

Jassy predicted that AWS could eventually bring in $1 trillion per year in revenue, surpassing his previous estimate of a few hundred billion dollars annually.

Amazon's cloud business has been expanding rapidly due to its growing portfolio of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and data centers worldwide. In the second quarter, AWS generated $42.2 billion in revenue, a 37% increase from the same period last year.

AWS ended the quarter with a staggering $496 billion order backlog from customers waiting for more data center capacity to come online. This suggests that the platform's revenue growth could accelerate in the future.
