AWS Set to Break Ground on $18 Billion Louisiana Data Center Complex
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is set to hold an open house event in the Shreveport-Bossier area of Louisiana to discuss its plans for three data centers. The facilities, expected to create over 700 permanent jobs, will use water for cooling only when temperatures exceed 85 degrees - a situation AWS estimates will occur less than 13% of the year.
AWS Vice President of Economic Development Roger Wehner assured that Amazon will cover the cost of energy improvements needed for its data centers, stating 'Our contract with SWEPCO and our commitment to them, and them to us, is to not impact rate payers. We are paying 100% of costs associated with this service, and they will not show up on the bills of customers.'
The company also plans to invest up to $400 million in public water infrastructure as part of its $18 billion investment in the data center campuses.
