AWS VP Leaves for Google Amid Growing Competition

Dave Levy, the vice president of Amazon Web Services' (AWS) Worldwide Public Sector, has left the company for a role at Google. According to an AWS spokesperson, Levy's last day was July 31, and he joined AWS in 2017 after a 12-year stint as Apple's head of U.S. government sales.

Levy led AWS' worldwide public sector business since 2023 and oversaw the company's national security and defense portfolio before that. His departure comes as AWS nears its 15th anniversary of its GovCloud, which debuted in 2011 as the first cloud infrastructure accredited and designed for government customers.

AWS remains the dominant market leader in the worldwide cloud computing market with nearly 28% of global market share. Google's business continues to grow, with its suite of cloud computing services steadily gaining market share from competitors AWS and Microsoft.
