Azure Hits $100 Billion in Annual Sales as OpenAI's Astra Model Rolls Out
Microsoft's Azure cloud unit has reached annual sales of over $100 billion, according to new financial reporting from Microsoft. This represents a significant increase from the previous year's total of $75 billion.
The news comes as OpenAI launched its highly anticipated GPT-6 Astra AI model on Thursday, which is now being used by early customers on Azure. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in an X post that he was 'excited to see early customers already using Astra on Azure.'
Astra is designed to go beyond conventional chatbot interactions and can reason through multi-step problems, create plans, use tools, and execute tasks across software applications.
Nadella sold $43 million worth of Microsoft shares earlier in the week under a pre-approved plan. The stock has moved largely sideways in recent weeks and has underperformed the broader market this year.
