Azure SQL Data Sync Phased Out by Microsoft

Microsoft is phasing out Azure SQL Data Sync, a service that synchronizes data between different databases. The company has begun the final phase of discontinuing the service, and new deployments are no longer possible within Azure subscriptions that have not previously used it. Existing users have until September 30, 2027, to migrate.

Azure SQL Data Sync operates on a hub-and-spoke model, with an Azure SQL Database serving as the central hub. Other Azure SQL Databases can be connected to it, and on-premises SQL Server databases can also be synchronized using a separate agent.

Microsoft has not provided a specific technical reason for discontinuing the service but refers to changing requirements related to business operations, security, and compliance.
