British Airways will resume flights from London Heathrow to Melbourne in January 2027, marking its return to the route after a 20-year absence. The airline will operate daily services with a mix of 215-seat and 216-seat Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which may affect passenger experience due to differences in business class configuration.
The flights will stop over in Kuala Lumpur, with fifth freedom rights available. This stopover is expected to boost sales of first-class and business suites on this very long-haul route. The return journey from Melbourne to London Heathrow will take around 23 hours and 45 minutes, influenced by headwinds and avoiding Iranian and Russian airspace.
British Airways' new offering will be among the quickest options between Melbourne and London Heathrow, but passengers may prefer other airlines that offer even shorter travel times. According to booking data, over 1.3 million round-trip passengers traveled between Europe and Melbourne in the past year, with LHR being the most popular airport level market.
