Baker McKenzie Bolsters Antitrust Practice with Former NY Official

Baker McKenzie has made another significant hire in its New York Antitrust & Competition Practice. The law firm has brought on Bryan Bloom, a former New York state antitrust official and UnitedHealth Group lawyer, as counsel. Bloom comes from a senior in-house role at UnitedHealth Group, where he advised on competition matters globally, including transactions, regulatory filings, litigation, government investigations, and compliance.

Bloom's background is diverse, having spent about a decade with the New York State Attorney General’s Antitrust Bureau and working as a private practice lawyer representing companies in merger reviews, investigations, and antitrust disputes. He has also held leadership roles with the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Law Section and the National Association of Attorneys General Antitrust Task Force.

Baker McKenzie is expanding its competition practice amid heightened scrutiny of mergers and corporate conduct by regulators in multiple jurisdictions. The firm's global head of Antitrust & Competition, Creighton Macy, believes Bloom's experience will be valuable to clients facing increased regulatory scrutiny. Macy has worked with Bloom for over 15 years.

Bloom's arrival follows the recent hiring of Mark Hamer, a former deputy assistant attorney general in the US Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, and Tim Finley, a former senior Justice Department antitrust and consumer-protection litigator.
