Baltic Region Sees Persistent NATO Air Activity
NATO air activity remains intense over the Baltic region as eastern-flank operations continue. This follows an unusually large NATO air operation near Kaliningrad just two days ago, which was described by NATO as routine training activity.
Today's activity includes multiple types of aircraft, including surveillance, electronic warfare, and tanker aircraft operating simultaneously across the region.
The U.S. presence is significant, with a Gulfstream EA-37B Compass Call II (reg. 19-5591, c/s SHOCK55) operating over the region, supported by several Boeing KC-135R tankers.
NATO's airborne early-warning aircraft provide persistent surveillance and command-and-control capabilities, while the German P-8A adds a maritime surveillance and intelligence-gathering component. The EA-37B brings a specialized electronic-warfare capability designed to disrupt or degrade enemy communications, radar, and other electronic systems.
