Banco Santander S.A., a major financial institution, has significantly increased its stake in McDonald's Corporation. According to recent disclosure with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Banco Santander acquired an additional 11,258 shares of MCD stock during the second quarter, representing a 14.6% increase in their holdings.
The total value of Banco Santander's MCD holdings now stands at $23.95 million, with the firm owning 88,602 shares as of the end of the most recent reporting period. This significant investment comes amidst various other changes in the market and within McDonald's itself, including a quarterly earnings report that showed adjusted EPS of $3.38, beating expectations.
The company has announced new growth initiatives, such as introducing Red Bull energy drinks and limited-time menu items, which could increase traffic and average spending while supporting a simpler restaurant operating model. Additionally, management acknowledged inconsistent value-menu execution and excessive operational complexity, making successful implementation of the turnaround strategy critical.
