State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir clarified that Bangladesh's decision to purchase Boeing aircraft is driven by the country's growing aviation needs, not external pressure. He dismissed suggestions that Dhaka is making the procurement under duress.

'No, it is not because of any pressure. It is being done in accordance with the needs of our aviation sector,' Kobir said during a press conference at the Foreign Ministry.

The state minister emphasized that Bangladesh needs to expand its aircraft fleet significantly to open new routes, increase passenger traffic and revenue, and emerge as a regional aviation hub. He cited the example of Ethiopian Airlines, which now operates over 150 aircraft, while Bangladesh could require between 70 to 80 aircraft or more in the next decade.

Bangladesh is planning to develop itself into an aviation hub in Asia and aims to serve multiple routes. To achieve this goal, Kobir stated that they need a larger fleet of aircraft from manufacturers like Boeing or Airbus. Based on their requirements, Bangladesh has taken an in-principle decision to purchase Boeing aircraft.
