Bangladesh Government's $3.7 Billion Boeing Deal Questioned by Supreme Court Lawyer
A legal notice has been sent to the government and Biman Bangladesh Airlines questioning the transparency of their proposed $3.7 billion deal to purchase 14 Boeing aircraft.
The notice, served by Supreme Court lawyer Mostafa Mohammad Golam Sarwar on Monday, asks for disclosure of relevant documents and an independent assessment of Biman's fleet requirements before any purchase is finalized.
Sarwar raised concerns over the justification for the proposed expenditure, citing recent reports that passenger demand has been affected by passport and visa restrictions affecting Bangladeshis.
He also questioned why the aircraft were not being procured through an open competitive tender, and whether the government had complied with public procurement laws and regulations in awarding the contract to Boeing.
