Bangladesh Told to Ensure Fair Play in Aircraft Procurement

EU Envoy Michael Miller has urged Bangladesh to ensure fair competition between aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing. The country is considering purchasing both Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with a recent deal signed with Boeing for 14 planes worth $3.7 billion.

Miller emphasized the importance of a 'level playing field' in government procurement decisions, allowing European manufacturers like Airbus to compete equally with other companies.

The EU Envoy praised Airbus's revised proposal as 'incredibly competitive', urging Bangladesh to take it 'very seriously'. He expressed confidence that discussions between Airbus and Biman Bangladesh Airlines would conclude quickly.

Biman had initially considered purchasing 10 Airbus aircraft, but negotiations were put on hold after the Boeing deal was signed in April. The Airbus proposal has since been revised, offering four A350-900 wide-body planes and six A321neo narrow-body jets.
