Banks Team Up to Launch Global Stablecoin Consortium
Major banks JPMorgan, Bank of America (BofA), Wells Fargo, and Santander are in talks to form a consortium that would issue a global stablecoin. This move marks a significant shift from individual bank-led digital currency initiatives.
The proposed consortium aims to create a unified stablecoin that meets regulatory standards across multiple jurisdictions. By pooling resources and expertise, these banks can address some of the concerns surrounding existing stablecoins, such as reserves, transparency, and systemic risks.
JPMorgan has also been exploring its own separate stablecoin plans, which could potentially extend its reach in the digital asset space. However, this raises questions about competition and interoperability with the proposed consortium.
