Bathroom Safety Measures Can Prevent Injuries for Seniors
The bathroom and toilet can be treacherous areas in the home, especially for seniors. According to statistics, they are among the most accident-prone spaces in a house.
A recent experience with my wife's physical therapist (PT) highlighted the importance of installing grab bars in the bathroom as a safety precaution. The PT suggested it due to signs of osteoporosis and emphasized that 'prevention is better than cure.'
We ended up purchasing L-shaped grab bars for around P3,500 each at Home Depot. In addition to these, we also looked for a safe and practical chair or bench for the shower.
The added advantage of having a bathing chair is that one can soap or scrub themselves in a relaxed state without fear of falling. It's essential to choose a heavy-duty white plastic chair over cheap flexible stools that can cause accidents.
