Bay Area Tech Layoffs Surpass Last Year's Total Amid Reorganization Efforts

The tech industry in the Bay Area has seen a significant increase in job cuts this year, surpassing last year's total. According to recent disclosures, 12,947 jobs have been eliminated through September, with PayPal, Amazon, and Synopsys being some of the companies involved.

PayPal, based in San Jose, has announced plans to cut 251 jobs at its headquarters complex, citing a reorganization effort to create three businesses: checkout solutions and PayPal, consumer financial services and Venmo, and payment services and crypto.

This downsizing comes as part of the company's plan to accelerate growth and unlock its full potential. The layoffs were effective September 1st and are expected to be permanent.
