Baywatch Reboot Lands at Amazon Prime Video Across Europe and Beyond
Amazon Prime Video has acquired the rights to reboot the classic drama 'Baywatch' across Europe, India, and Canada. The deal, brokered by Fremantle, follows Sky's acquisition of the show in the UK and Ireland.
The new series will feature 12 episodes, starting in January next year, with the complete back catalogue available on Prime Video. The reboot stars Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, alongside a cast that includes Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, and Thaddeus LaGrone.
David Chokachi will reprise his original role as Cody Madison in recurring appearances, while Erika Eleniak will guest star as Shauni McClain. Michela Di Mondo, EVP distribution for Canada and International at Fremantle, praised the deal as a 'significant moment' for one of the industry's most anticipated launches.
The original 'Baywatch', made famous by David Hasselhoff, ran from 1989 to 2001 on NBC and syndication around the world. The new series is directed by McG (Charlie's Angels) and produced by Matt Nix (Burn Notice).
