Beacon Mourns Loss of 'Wildcat Whits,' Beloved Community Leader
Andrew Whitson, known to many as 'Wildcat Whits,' passed away on September 1, 2026. He was a lifelong resident of Beacon and spent his life trying new things - literally. After serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, he worked for IBM for over two decades before transitioning into various roles, including phlebotomist, limousine route owner, and school bus driver.
Whitson was a member of several organizations, including the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Corp., St. Rocco's, and the Elks Club. He also volunteered as a firefighter with Tompkins Hose Fire Company and coached soccer in the Beacon Soccer League. His family described him as someone who 'lived on his own terms' and enjoyed trying new things.
Whitson is survived by his wife, Georgea Whitson; children Michelle Morrow and Evan Whitson (Erin); bonus daughter Sue Wiand (Keith Wiand) and grandchildren Ewan Davidson, Mace Morrow, Maddox Morrow, Simon Whitson, Allison Frost (Derek Frost), and Abby Wiand.
