Beckham's Brand Booms as He Enters Billionaire Territory
David Beckham's post-football earnings have catapulted him into billionaire territory. According to reports, his commercial income is expected to reach £125 million (R2.77 billion) next year. This estimate comes from Alison Boshoff's new book, 'Brand Beckham: The Fame. The Feuds. The Fallout,' which suggests that Beckham's brand has become a lucrative business venture.
The World Cup played a significant role in boosting Beckham's earnings, with him being featured in campaigns for various brands such as Home Depot and Pepsi. Former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller attributes the success of Beckham's brand to his ability to transcend his football background and connect with people worldwide.
In 2019, Beckham sold 55% of his brand business to Authentic Brands Group for $250 million (R4.12 billion) in cash and stock. He also owns a significant stake in Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer club he helped create, valuing it at $1.35 billion (R22.23 billion). The Sunday Times Rich List estimates Beckham's combined fortune with his wife Victoria to be around £1.185 billion (R26.28 billion).
Beckham's business savvy and ability to evolve from a sponsored individual to an equity owner have been praised by experts, including former chief executive of M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment, Steve Martin.
