Belgium Lures Remote Workers with Digital Nomad Visa

Belgium has launched a digital nomad visa to attract highly-skilled professionals from non-EU countries. The new policy, announced on August 2, 2026, allows remote workers to live and work in Belgium for up to 12 months.

The Belgian government estimates that the country loses between €60 million (R1.2 billion) and €80 million (R1.6 billion) annually due to foreign talent being drawn away by other countries with more welcoming policies.

State Secretary for Digitalisation Mathieu Michel unveiled the scheme, which aims to lure in highly-skilled professionals who can contribute to the country's economy. Applicants must demonstrate a gross annual income of €42 000 (R840 000) and have private health insurance.
