Bengaluru Food Safety Crackdown Sees Rs. 1.38 Crore Worth Expired Items Seized
In a major crackdown on food safety, authorities in Bengaluru seized expired and mislabelled grocery items worth Rs. 1.38 crore from Amazon and Swiggy Instamart warehouses.
The operation targeted major supply hubs and local retail storage units, including those operated by Amazon and Swiggy Instamart.
Regulators examined items sold through digital platforms for compliance with statutory labelling requirements, manufacturing details, expiry dates, and essential safety standards.
Expired food worth Rs. 1.38 crore was seized from an Amazon hub in Devanahalli, while a Swiggy Instamart facility in Hoskote had expired food valued at Rs. 42 lakh, which led to the closure of the premises due to unhygienic conditions.
Warning notices have been issued to non-compliant units, with officials cautioning that further punitive action under food safety regulations will follow.
