Berkshire Bets Big on AI-Focused Google Parent Alphabet
Berkshire Hathaway's CEO Greg Abel explained that the conglomerate's significant investment in Google parent Alphabet is due to the tech giant's strength in artificial intelligence. According to Abel, Alphabet's position as a 'significant player' in AI was a fundamental reason behind Berkshire's decision to invest.
Abel revealed that he was approached earlier this year about participating in Alphabet's $80 billion stock offering to raise funds for its AI buildout and decided to invest another $10 billion. This investment would bring the total value of Berkshire's stake in Alphabet to approximately $35.64 billion, based on closing prices at the end of the second quarter.
The company first revealed its stake last November, initiated by legendary investor Warren Buffett, who stepped down from his role as CEO at the end of 2025. Abel took over as CEO this year and has continued to build on Berkshire's investment in Alphabet.
