Berkshire Hathaway Boosts Alphabet Stake by $17 Billion in Q2
Berkshire Hathaway significantly increased its stake in Alphabet, parent company of Google, during the second quarter of this year. According to a recent SEC filing, Berkshire added approximately $17 billion to its Alphabet holdings, making it the third-largest position in its equity portfolio.
The conglomerate acquired around 48.1 million new Alphabet shares, with about 60% of these, or roughly $10 billion, obtained through a private placement deal with Alphabet in early June. The remaining shares were purchased on the open market.
Berkshire's total stake in Alphabet now stands at around 106 million shares, valued at approximately $36.6 billion. This is up from the previous quarter and puts Alphabet above Coca-Cola but below American Express and Apple in Berkshire's top holdings.
