Berkshire Hathaway Boosts Stake in Alphabet, Making It Third-Largest Holding
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway significantly increased its stake in Alphabet, the parent company of Google, in the second quarter. The conglomerate now owns nearly 106 million shares worth around $37.8 billion, making Alphabet its third-largest holding. This represents an 83% boost from the previous quarter, with a significant portion of the increase being the recently announced $10 billion investment to support Alphabet's AI infrastructure.
Berkshire's top holdings remain largely unchanged, with Apple still holding the largest position worth around $66 billion, followed by American Express at $51.3 billion. Coca-Cola ranks fourth and Bank of America fifth. Buffett has confirmed that it was his idea to invest in Alphabet, which Berkshire started building a stake in last year.
Berkshire also made other notable changes to its portfolio, including buying more shares of home builder Lennar and disclosing a small stake in D.R. Horton. The company reduced its holdings in several companies, including Ally Financial, Bank of America, and Kroger.
