Berkshire Hathaway Likely to Increase Alphabet Stake Amid Strong Financials

Berkshire Hathaway's new CEO, Greg Abel, has made significant investment decisions since taking over from Warren Buffett. One notable move was purchasing roughly $23 billion worth of Alphabet shares this year, with some of that amount coming in a private placement.

This isn't the first time Berkshire Hathaway has invested in Alphabet, as it initially initiated a position in the third quarter of 2025, according to Warren Buffett. Abel and his team seem to have strong conviction in the tech leader's long-term prospects.

History shows that when Berkshire Hathaway invests heavily in a company, it tends to stick with that investment for years to come. The conglomerate has held Apple shares since 2016 and increased its stake over time. Similarly, it bought Visa shares nine times between 2011 and 2016.

Alphabet's recent financial results have been impressive, with revenue increasing by 24% year-over-year in the second quarter to $119.8 billion. The company's cloud computing business saw an 82% increase in sales to $24.8 billion, and Alphabet has a massive cloud backlog of $514 billion.
