Berkshire Hathaway Scores $8 Billion Gains on Coca-Cola Stake
Berkshire Hathaway's stock portfolio has performed well this year, thanks in part to its long-held position in Coca-Cola. The company first began purchasing shares of the iconic consumer beverage brand in the late 1980s and completed a 400 million share purchase in 1994.
Coca-Cola is now Berkshire's third-largest holding, accounting for nearly 10% of the conglomerate's capital, and its shares have risen by nearly 29% this year. This performance has resulted in over $7.9 billion in gains for Berkshire Hathaway since January, with Coca-Cola also paying out $1.06 per share in dividends.
Berkshire Hathaway's decision to invest in companies like Coca-Cola demonstrates its long-term approach and discipline in balancing its portfolio. While the conglomerate's performance is not solely dependent on this one stock, it has proven to be a steady performer during times of economic turbulence.
