Berkshire Hathaway Sticks with Coca-Cola Despite Tech Shift
Coca-Cola remains one of Berkshire Hathaway's top holdings despite the company's increasing focus on tech investments. The beverage maker accounts for 9.8% of Berkshire's total portfolio, generating over $800 million from Coca-Cola's dividend payouts each year.
The conglomerate's CEO Greg Abel has shown greater comfort with owning tech stocks, with Apple and Alphabet now among Berkshire's top five holdings. However, Coca-Cola's consistent dividend payments and stock price appreciation make it a likely top holding for the foreseeable future.
Berkshire Hathaway owns 400 million shares of Coca-Cola, which pays out a $2.12 per share dividend yielding 2.4%. This has generated $848 million in dividends for Berkshire from Coca-Cola each year, representing a 65% return on its original $1.3 billion investment.
