Berkshire Hathaway Surges Alphabet Holdings by 83% in Q2 2026
Berkshire Hathaway made its most aggressive stock purchases in years during Q2 2026, led by an 83% increase in Alphabet holdings. The conglomerate now owns approximately 106 million Alphabet shares valued at $37.9 billion, making it Berkshire's third-biggest equity position after Apple and American Express.
The expansion of Alphabet holdings came from a combination of a $10 billion private placement transaction and open market purchases. This move has been attributed to Warren Buffett and Greg Abel, who endorsed the strategic investment in Alphabet shares that have climbed approximately 170% over the previous three years due to its competitive position in artificial intelligence development.
Berkshire's buying activity went beyond Alphabet, with a 44% increase in Delta Air Lines holdings valued at $5.4 billion and a 30% boost in Lennar Class A shares worth approximately $1.19 billion. The firm also established a new stake in D.R. Horton.
The second quarter marked the first period in 14 consecutive quarters where Berkshire operated as a net purchaser of equities, deploying $23.5 billion acquiring shares while divesting only $3.7 billion. Berkshire's cash holdings decreased from an unprecedented $397.4 billion to $365.5 billion during this period.
